Mini-Post 1

Design sets the basis of the audience’s first impression. Specific layouts and color schemes provide a sense of atmosphere and foreshadow what may be presented to the audience on the body of work being constructed. Based on the Gestalt Theory, I came to the conclusion that being uniform is important to layout. Multiple pages cannot vary in design or navigation, as the flow of the page/site will be disrupted, and will not hold the attention of the viewer, or seem unorganized. Three key concepts I have gathered from the readings on the construction and development of a design, for anything, is that the format of a “good” app/site/etc. is better off simple in layout than complex (originality is valued, but for a base, things are pretty generic). Decorative typefaces are appealing, but should be reserved for shorter features such as a header, subheading, or title. Also, as minor as it may seem, the importance of typography is immense, seeing that it could make or break in completion, the intention of one’s text, especially when a variety of fonts are being incorporated; they must compliment each other, as well as the message. Ultimately, design is a process of putting pieces together to accomplish/evoke a desired response from audience members and viewers. As the designer, one must make sure the pieces work together efficiently to do so.
